Metaldehyde 6%GR Molluscicide

Metaldehyde is a tetramer of acetaldehyde. It has a unique fragrance that strongly attracts soft-bodied animals like snails and slugs. Its chemical properties are stable, and it does not easily decompose under normal temperature and pressure. However, it decomposes more rapidly in acidic environments. Therefore, users should keep it away from acidic substances. Metaldehyde has low toxicity to humans and animals. It is also low in toxicity to fish and non-target organisms on land and in water. This makes it an environmentally friendly pesticide.

The main mechanism of action of Metaldehyde disrupts the acetylcholinesterase system in pests. When snails or slugs contact Metaldehyde, they quickly ingest the substance. This leads to a massive release of acetylcholinesterase. The release disrupts their unique mucus structure. During this process, pests experience nerve paralysis and reduced mobility. They also secrete excessive mucus. Ultimately, they suffer poisoning and death due to fluid loss and cellular damage. Additionally, Metaldehyde has good adhesion. It evenly coats and remains on the surfaces of crops and pests, enhancing its effectiveness in pest control.

Application

For the 6% metaldehyde granules, farmers commonly use broadcasting methods for pest control. It is recommended to use 500-1000 grams per acre, adjusting the amount based on the severity of damage from snails and slugs. When using, mix the granules evenly with fine soil or sand and apply them to the base of crops or areas frequented by snails. Alternatively, cut small holes in the packaging and sprinkle a circle around the field, placing several treatment points in the center to enhance the trapping effect.

The 80% metaldehyde powder is typically applied using a spraying method. When using, dilute the powder with water at a specific ratio (e.g., 500 times) and spray it over the entire field with a sprayer. It is important to avoid spraying the front side of the crop leaves to prevent the solution from being blocked, which would reduce its effectiveness. Additionally, increase the dosage in areas with high snail populations to ensure effective control.

The 40% metaldehyde SC is also applied using a spraying method. It is particularly suitable for high-altitude spraying, such as on fruit trees, winter melons, peppers, and eggplants. This method is safe and effective. Many snails and slugs feed on the leaves of crops at higher locations, so this liquid can be diluted with water and sprayed on the plants. It does not harm crops, has low toxicity, and leaves no residue, making it safe for use on flowers and green plants.
