Ethephon 480g/L SL 720g/L SL

Ethephon, commonly known as a ripening agent, is a plant growth regulator. It belongs to the class of dichloroethyl phosphonic acids. It is synthesized by esterifying ethylene oxide with phosphorus trichloride at low temperatures. Then, molecular rearrangement occurs at high temperatures, followed by acid hydrolysis. This organic phosphorus compound is stable at pH ≤ 3. However, it decomposes to release ethylene when pH > 3. Ethylene enhances the synthesis of ribonucleic acid (RNA) in cells. This promotes protein synthesis.

In the abscission zone of plants, such as the petiole, peduncle, and at the base of petals, protein synthesis increases. This stimulates the re-synthesis of cellulase. Consequently, it accelerates the formation of abscission layers and leads to organ drop. Ethephon enhances enzyme activity. It can activate phosphatases and other enzymes related to fruit ripening during maturation. In aging or diseased plants, ethephon induces changes in peroxidase levels. This occurs due to its promotion of protein synthesis. Additionally, ethylene inhibits the synthesis of endogenous auxins. This action delays plant growth.

Ethephon has an absorption and conduction effect, allowing it to enter the plant through the leaves, bark, fruits, or seeds, and then be transferred to various parts of the plant. It can promote the formation of adventitious roots, thicken the stems, dwarf the plants, break dormancy, induce flowering, control the sexual differentiation of floral organs, accelerate fruit ripening, and promote aging and abscission.

Application

  1. Promoting Female Flower Bud Differentiation: In cucumbers, zucchini, pumpkins, and other gourd vegetables, when the seedlings have 1 to 3 true leaves, spraying a 50 mg/kg ethephon solution on the seedlings every 10 to 15 days for a total of three applications will promote the occurrence of female flowers, reduce male flowers, hasten maturity by 7 to 10 days, and increase yield by 15% to 20%.

2. Controlling Seedling Elongation: Tomato seedlings are prone to elongation. When the tomato seedlings have 3 to 5 true leaves, spraying a 300 mg/kg ethephon solution twice can effectively control this elongation. This treatment leads to robust root development, enhanced stress resistance, early bud differentiation, and earlier fruiting, resulting in a yield increase of over 20% to 30% in the early stage. For corn, applying a solution of 6 to 7.5 g/667 m² of ethephon can promote root development, result in shorter, sturdier plants, improve airflow and light penetration in the field, accelerate maturity, and increase yield by regulating growth and enhancing productivity.

3. Promoting Germination: Before sowing ginger, soaking the seeds in a 250 to 500 mg/kg ethephon solution for 2 minutes can significantly enhance germination. This treatment speeds up the germination rate and increases the emergence rate, with the number of sprouts per ginger seed piece increasing from 1 to 2 or 3 sprouts.

4. Promoting Fruit Coloration and Maturation: When grape berries start to color, treating the clusters with a 300 to 400 mg/kg ethephon solution can enhance the accumulation of anthocyanins in many red varieties, promoting fruit coloration.

5. Promoting Leaf Drop: In the mid to late growth stage of cotton, spraying a 1000 to 1200 mg/L ethephon solution on the plants can hasten the maturity of cotton bolls without affecting quality. Spraying the whole plant with a 1600 to 4000 mg/L ethephon solution can facilitate leaf drop, allowing for earlier harvest and increasing the ratio of blossoms before frost.

6. Accelerating Fruit Ripening: During the white ripening stage of tomatoes, evenly applying a 300 mg/kg ethephon solution to the fruit peduncle can cause tomatoes to ripen 10 to 15 days earlier, resulting in a yield increase of over 30% in the early stage.
